The Fanfiction Directory was started in response to the now dead site "FanLib" and the changes to the rules at fanfiction.net. I wanted to spread the word that there were independent archives out there.

I believe that fanfiction authors shouldn't have to put up with their stories being exploited for commercial use, their browsing experience being interupted by multiple, intrusive ads (I'm looking at your ff.net), or draconian laws on formatting. There are other options besides the 'big' multi-fandom archives. Please use this directory to find an archive where you can post or read stories the way you want to.

My secondary goal is to provide resources and support for independent archive owners. Maintaining an archive is not an easy task and I hope that any maintainers browsing the site find it helpful as well.
